Professional tutor training

Tutor learning
and development

SU Campus runs a structured programme that prepares tutors to teach with clarity, safeguard every student, and hold themselves to a genuine professional standard. New to tutoring or refining your practice, you get one clear path from first session to confident, capable teaching.

Why this training holds up

Built like a course, not a checklist

Every part of the programme earns its place. Tutors leave knowing what to teach, how to keep students safe, and how to run a session that actually works.

01

A structured curriculum

Four core content blocks sequenced in order, so each session builds on the last. You follow a clear path instead of piecing skills together on your own.

02

Safeguarding at the core

A dedicated safeguarding course sits inside the programme. You finish understanding your responsibilities to students and exactly what to do when something feels wrong.

03

Live, mentored practice

Training runs virtual with live Zoom sessions, so you learn alongside trainers and other tutors and get feedback on your teaching before you sit in front of a student.

Who the training is for

Wherever you are as a tutor

The programme meets tutors at two common starting points and takes both to the same professional standard.

New to tutoring

You know your subject but have never been shown how to teach it one to one. Start here and build the method from the ground up.

  • Learn how to plan and lead a session with confidence
  • Understand safeguarding before your first student
  • Practise live with trainers, not on a real student

Experienced and refreshing

You have tutored before and want to sharpen your practice, update your safeguarding, and work to a consistent standard.

  • Tighten how you assess progress and give feedback
  • Refresh current safeguarding responsibilities
  • Bring your sessions in line with the programme standard
What tutors say
